As a family dental provider, one of my most important goals is to provide minimally invasive dentistry to my patients. I am a huge fan of Dr. Frank Spear, and the Spear Institute for comprehensive patient care. What does that mean for my patients?
Using a full-mouth care technique, I focus on what is best for each patient’s overall oral health. Rather than looking at a single tooth, I look at the big picture. How does the equilibration or biting pattern of my patient’s teeth impact things like:
- TMJ Function
- Tooth Wear
- Periodontal Disease
- Life of Restorations
- Tooth Alignment
Yes, I treat teeth that have cavities or need a crown - but before providing those services I must first consider the overall impact that it has on my patient’s smile. Will it change his or her bite? Does the health of the gum tissue interfere with long-term results? Each area plays into the next. That’s why I try to focus on the big picture, rather than a quick fix.
By implementing knowledge and skills that I received through the Spear Education system, I am better equipped to integrate methods and techniques that limit the amount of dental problems that my patients have in the future. It’s what I would want for my own family. It’s what I feel I owe to my patients.
